【本报讯】2019年5月24日,星期五,在Lam Bo 举行今年的警民联欢大会。回忆过去9年,由余颂辉用英文书写了简单的回顾。中文翻译邓润京。文章如下:

2010年,首届警民联欢大会的主席何鸿先生在致词中说 ,   “我们亚裔社区的朋友们,包括的居民,商人甚至外来购物者,无论是中国人,越南人,韩国人,印度人,巴基斯坦人还是菲律宾人等, 经常出入在西南区的百利大道(Bellaire Blvd.)。我们都感谢当地警方每周7天,每天24小时密切关注我们的安全。 我们要在这里表达我们的感激之情。让我们相识并共进晚餐“。这些诚挚的话语确定了以后所有9届晚会的基调。

历届的晚会主席和共同主席是:何鸿,陈灼刚,李雄,王裕炎,丁昭信   ,关荣强,Steven Le, 翁作华, 李世荣,黄孔威,余颂辉和黄晓明。

晚会被邀请的执法机构包括: 休斯顿警察局(HPD),哈里斯县警长办公室(HCSO),哈里斯县治安官辖区5、2、1。 福遍县治安官办公室, 糖城警察局, 密苏里市警察局, 斯坦福市警察局, 公交车警察、联邦调查局, 德克萨斯州酒精饮料委员会、医疗责任条例办公室和休斯顿社区学院。

休斯顿警察局前任局长查尔斯·麦克莱伦德、现任局长 阿·艾卡维多和HCSO警长阿德里安·加西亚和艾德·冈萨雷斯都非常支持并感谢所有这些警民联欢大会。

除了在这个年度聚会上得到全面的赞誉外,我们从第六届警民联欢晚会上给自己设立了一个使命。鼓励亚裔官员在各自的机构内寻求监督和管理职位,以增加社区中少数族裔代表的数量。职业发展的特质和先决条件包括适当的高学历、晋升考试、精通多种语言、致力于社区发展、积极主动、自我牺牲、接受挑战的领导能力和对多元文化的广泛包容。对于具备上述资格及特质的亚裔管理人员,我们鼓励他们透过适当的资格评定及卓越表现寻求晋升。作为亚洲社区的侨领,我们准备向他们提供最强有力的推荐,让他们担任各自执法机构中的主要官员。

警民联欢晚会的资金完全由社区组织、商人和公司提供。他们衷心感谢执法人员为确保休斯顿西南地区的安全和繁荣而付出的不懈努力。

     Reflection at the 10th anniversary of past LEOA galas

The welcoming remarks of Ho Hung, chairman of the inaugural gala in 2010 “We, friends of the Asian community are mainly residents, merchants and even shoppers of Asian heritage, be they Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans, Indians, Pakistani or Filipinos, etc. who frequent the southwest Bellaire Blvd. corridor . . . . . we appreciate your keeping an eye on our safety, 7-24, year-round.   We want to express our gratitude . . . . Let’s be acquainted and have a good dinner with us” really set the tone of all subsequent 9 galas since.

Current and past Chairmen and Co-Chairmen: Ho Hung, Leon Chen, Kenneth Li; Hai Du Duong, Joe Ting, Ringo Kwan, Steven Le, Richard Ong, Huang Kongwei, Frank Yu and Peter Huang.

Law Enforcement Agencies:  Houston Police Department (HPD), Harris County Sheriff Office (HCSO), Harris County Constable Precinct 5, 2, and 1, Fort Bend County Sheriff Office, Sugar Land PD, Missouri City PD, Stafford PD, Metro Police, FBI, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, Health Care Accountability Ordinance Office and Houston Community College System.

HPD Chief Charles McClelland, Chief Art Acevedo and HCSO Sheriff Adrian Garcia and Sheriff Ed Gonzalez had been very supportive and appreciative of all these LEOA gala.

In addition to overall appreciation at this annual gathering, we set a mission on our 6th LEOA Gala to encourage Asian officers and deputies to seek supervisory and management positions within their respective agencies to increase the number of effective ethnic representatives in their communities.  The attributes and pre-requisites for career advancements include appropriate advanced degrees, promotion exams, multi-lingual proficiency, devotion to Community Outreach, proactive, self-sacrificing, challenge-accepting leadership and a broad tolerance to cultural issues.   For those Officers of Asian heritage who acquire the above qualifications and attributes, we encourage you to seek promotion through proper eligibility and distinction. As leaders of the Asian communities, we are ready to give you the strongest recommendations to serve as key officers in your law enforcement agency.

Funding of the LEOA Gala has been contributed exclusively by community organizations, local merchants and service entities with one unequivocal gratitude—appreciation of the ever presence of law enforcement personnel to ensure peaceful existence in the thriving southwest region of Houston.
